WHO:    Greater Houston Area Out of the Darkness Community Walk

WHAT:    The Greater Houston Area Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a fundraising walk supporting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  More than 600 registrants plan to walk to bring mental health and suicide Out of the Darkness.  Funds will support vital research, education, advocacy, suicide prevention initiatives and programs to support those impacted by suicide.

WHERE:    Stude Park, 1030 Stude, Houston, TX 77009

WHEN:    (9 a.m.) – Walker registration
(9:30 a.m.) – Suggested media arrival
(10 a.m.) – Opening ceremony followed by scenic walk around Stude Park

WHY:    It is estimated that each year, nearly 1 million Americans make a suicide attempt, more than 36,000 die by suicide, and more than 20 million suffer from depression.  Suicide takes an enormous toll on families, friends, co-workers and entire communities. Yet, suicide can be prevented.  This event is designed to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention.
